“Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken?” sings the powerful voice of Tina Turner.
An electric performer who put her heart and soul into music, resulting in eight Grammy wins and an induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, according to biography.com.
Influenced by her hometown of St. Louis, Mo, Turner began in the rhythm and blues industry. She partnered with her future husband and musician Ike Turner. The couple’s biggest success was their cover of “Proud Mary” by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1970.
“I believe that if you just stand up and go, life will open up for you,” said Tina Turner.
After six years of grappling with raising a family without much financial support, her first solo hit: “What’s Love Got to Do with it” in 1984.
“Her music has given women the strength to be themselves,” said orchestra teacher Angela Henry. “She lets her hair out, she dances wild, and she doesn’t care.”
Turner’s passion, zeal, and bold outfits influenced the musicians of the 21st century to be who they are today. Celebrities such as Rhianna, Lady Gaga, Lizzo and Beyonce all credit Tina Turner for being an inspiration.
“People think my life has been tough but I think it’s been a wonderful journey,” said Turner.
