“We are all born naked and the rest is drag,” sang RuPaul in his song “Born Naked.”
Known as the “Queen of Drag,” RuPaul is an American drag queen best known for hosting the reality competition show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
In 1987, RuPaul moved to NYC where he became a prominent figure in the city’s nightclub scene, according to The New York Times.
However, he reached his big break in 1993 with the release of his debut single, “Supermodel (You Better Work).”
This led him to get his talk show on VH1 and a modeling contract with MAC Cosmetics, according to Rolling Stone.
Sixteen years later, he got the opportunity to host and produce “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in 2009.
Since then, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has served as a platform to bring the art form of drag to mainstream media.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race opened my mind up to the idea of drag and showed me how innovative it can be,” said senior Olivia Schunck.
