Varsity boys soccer defeated Deep Creek High School on Mar. 25, 2024, ending the game with a score of 7-1.

“We were locked in. We knew we were missing some key players, and that we had to be smart in the way we played to prevent any other injuries,” said senior Jesse Gutierrez.

Seniors Ryan Studley, Collin Murns, Jesse Gutierrez, Noah Ridgway and junior Evan Grabarczyk scored goals while being assisted by senior Abou Sissoko, freshman Zak Kain-Kuzniewski and seniors Shaun Van Duesen and Nick Ward.

“It felt like we had a goal coming for most of the game so far, so getting the first goal of the game gave the whole team a big sense of relief,” said Collin.

The game started with a goal scored by Collin, who was assisted by Shaun, followed by another goal scored by Ryan later on in the game.

“I was relieved when we scored because we were dominating the game and we finally had the lead over Deep Creek,” said Shaun.

The Hornets scored once but that didn’t stop the Dolphins from preserving through the goal and making their comeback.

“We weren’t worried when they scored. We kept our game plan up because we knew we would have more chances to score,” said Shaun.

The dolphins have started their season off strong with a 4-1 overall season thus far while also being ranked first in the beach district.

“We make sure the team is always positive and strong. Everyone knows their job, how to do it and what needs to be done. From freshman to the seniors, everyone has their part and executes it well,” said Jesse.
