This past year, over 1,100 pets were classified as dead or rescued from the freezing weather, according to FOUR PAWS, a large global organization that helps farm, companion and wild animals from unfortunate environments. The class of 2028 decided to help change that reality.
“We want to make an impact in the community, so we are really looking forward to having everyone come out and hopefully have some donations,” Class of 2028 president and sophomore Seth Bangsal said.
From Jan. 5-30, the Class of 2028 will hold a Winter Pet Drive with a donation box in front of the library. With the help of Ocean Lakes faculty and students, the Class of 2028 hopes to collect blankets, towels, beddings and sheets for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
“Knowing that many students and individuals in the area have pets, we want to also help care for the sheltered animals with SPCA by collecting warm necessities during the winter months,” Class of 2028 Vice President and sophomore Dang Vo said.
The fundraiser was created by the Class of 2028 community service committee led by Dang and Seth.
If an item is donated to the charity, students gain admission to a movie night on Jan. 23, featuring “Rise of the Guardians.”
“Not only will this give us experiences and knowledge for future drives, it will do something positive for the community.” Dang said.
