There’s a time and place for everything and that includes Christmas.
During the month of November, it’s almost guaranteed that a person will see at least one Christmas-related thing.
Whether it’s a commercial, lights display, Target section or even a Starbucks coffee style, it will be there. For many stores and corporations, the holiday season kicks off the second the clock strikes midnight on Halloween.
To that, I say this: The day after Thanksgiving is the best time for setting up decorations, not before.
Look, don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday, even. However, it gets a little hard to enjoy when I’m still trying to celebrate Thanksgiving. I even conducted a poll in Fara Wiles’ Honors English 9 class to see other opinions.
It turns out that around 53 percent of people agree with the idea of not starting until after Thanksgiving. 23 percent of people agree with the corporations and think that it shouldn’t wait for a moment after Halloween. Another popular choice was the beginning of December, with 12.8 percent. A couple of people think that Christmas can be celebrated anytime, anywhere.
In addition, a great deal of people enjoy setting up Christmas in mid-November, since they just don’t have the time in December.
So, I propose this: Set up the day after Thanksgiving. Someone could even do it after the last bite is eaten during their Thanksgiving meal. Then people have the remainder of November and the whole of December to enjoy their decorations.
And now, I send the readers off to begin decorating—after Thanksgiving, that is. So, in other words, feel free to start now.
