Whether she is leading discussions in her English class or guiding the yearbook team, Ashley Adams brings her trademark energy to every corner of Room 145. Her dedication to her students and the school earned her the title of the 2027 Teacher of the Year.
Adams, who has been teaching for 14 years, said the recognition holds personal meaning because it came from her colleagues.
“It means a lot to know that a group of teachers believed I deserved this honor,” Adams said. “It’s humbling to be recognized by my peers for something I truly love doing.”
Adams then expressed how her journey into education did not start in a traditional way.
“In high school, I originally wanted to be a mortician,” Adams said. “Soon after, I decided not to pursue that career because it was too much chemistry for me.”
Her career path shifted when she shadowed a kindergarten teacher and discovered her true calling.
“I immediately knew I wanted to be a teacher, just not teach that young,” Adams said.
Adams’ current yearbook student, sophomore Madelyn Custodio, describes her as extremely dedicated.
“She really does go above and beyond for her students, like taking the time out of her day to help us get the things we need to be successful in her classes,” Madelyn said.
Adams emphasized passion and openness to anyone pursuing a career in education.
“My advice is that you just have to love what you’re doing and be able to learn from your experiences,” Adams said.
Throughout her career, Adams has continued to grow by taking on new challenges and learning opportunities. From attending conferences to advising the yearbook staff, she strives to make each year meaningful. She believes that she is always learning something new and that every year brings something different.
Freshman Ayusha Paudel expressed how much of a joy it is to have Adams as a teacher.
“I love how I am able to talk about personal things with her and be able to have that strong of a connection that you can’t find in other teachers,” Ayusha said.
As she reflects on the recognition, Adams says her favorite part of teaching is still the same as when she started: connecting with students.
“Talking to students and seeing them learn and grow is what keeps me inspired,” Adams said.
